On this web site you can get a good impression of the groups I play in and of me as a bass player. Styles may differ, but they're all closely related to jazz. Here you’ll find music in mp3 or Real Audio by most of the groups I play with. The bass lessons on this site are widely appreciated.
I was born in Amsterdam in 1948. From '60 I took guitarlessons at the Volksmuziekschool, later with Carlo Mell. I attended to jazz workshops of Theo Loevendie. From ' 66 up to ' 70 I studied "classical" guitar at the Conservatory of the Muzieklyceum. Education in jazz - or world music was not available at conservatories at the time. However I participated to different workshops: "New Music" at the Musikhochschule Koln, electronic music at Sonologie Utrecht. I explored as much as possible, with spanish -, electric - or bassguitar and sometimes percussion I played in jazz -, blues -, salsa - and theatre orchestras.

René van Beeck is Amsterdams bekendste contrabassist. Bijna elke avond is hij wel te vinden in het Amsterdamse nachtleven waar hij onvermoeid jamsessies organiseert die inmiddels zo bekend zijn dat hij zonder problemen de grootste sterren mag ontvangen. Zo is hij ook zeer regelmatig in Den Haag in Danzig, waar iedere week optredens te zien zijn in allerlei wisselende samenstellingen met artiesten uit Nederland en daarbuiten.

started making music at age 10. His instrument of choice was the clarinet. In highschool he became impressed with bassists like Ray Brown and Paul Chambers and decided to become a bassist. In 1972 he finished his classical doublebass study at the conservatory of Arnhem.
