Brussels
Jazz Orchestra, big Band An initiative of Marc Godfroid, Serge Plume and Frank Vaganée saw, in 1993, the birth of the "Brussels Jazz Orchestra" . What drives a bunch of young Belgian jazz musicians, especially in a country where outlets for jazz musicians are limited in time and space, to get together in the wee hours to study fastidious scores of big band music ? Even more so when they easily could pursue their own profitable diverse bread-and-butter trios and quartets. www adres: http://www.jazzinbelgium.org/groups/aboutbjo.htm |

Janne
Ersson Big Band The world is full of dreamers, but few of them have the boldness and tenacity to make their dreams come true. From the moment he heard a recording of the Buddy Rich big band in 1966, Swedish drummer Janne Ersson decided he would one day lead a band like that himself. After years of paying his dues, Ersson became disenchanted with the music business and took a job at the post office, working there for years until the branch was closed and he was laid off with two years' salary in advance. The time had come, he knew, to realize his dream. Finding musicians in Sweden who were interested in the music "was easy," he writes; "finding guys who could play [it] well was another thing." www adres:http://www.streamport.net/ersson/startpage.html |

Glenn
Miller Orchestra, for europe, big band In 1978 the orchestra leader Wil Salden began his Glenn Miller studies. Wil Salden adopted Glenn Millerís magic formular: "Every bandleader or arranger dreams of creating a new and unmistakable sound that is immediately recognizable after the first few bars". Wil Salden took this small stroke of genius to heart when he was setting up his orchestra. Here, the recognizable sound is based two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones and a clarinet. According to rumor, the Glenn Miller sound came about by chance. During a performance, the first trumpeter injured his lip and the clarinet had to take over the trumpet part " the Miller sound was born. www adres: http://www.glenn-miller.de/ |

Wonderbrass,
big band is a funky big band which brings an intoxicating mix of jazz, Latin, ska and soul from the heart of the south Wales valleys. They've been blowing up a storm from Cardiff to Cork, Lichfield to London, Brecon to Barcelona, Paris to Pontypridd and all points in between since they grew out of a workshop launched as part of the Valleys Live festival in Wales in 1992. Now over 25 strong, they are a formidable outfit, with occasional surprise guest appearances from Jazz Jamaica All Stars Jason Yarde and Claude Deppa who have each composed 10th anniversary pieces especially for the band. www adres: www.wonderbrass.org.uk |
