Billy
Kilson's, drummer Like most young drummers, Billy Kilson began his career in his mother's kitchen with her pots and pans. Billy's love for the drums began to grow as he grew. Pots and pans, twigs and sticks were used to create a beat. Seeing her son's interest in music, Billy's mother enrolled him in trumpet lessons and later he switched to trombone. His yearning for the drums continued and finally, for his sixteenth birthday he received his first drum set. The gift was conditional upon his continuance of good grades. He kept his part of the bargain and graduated with honors while taking advantage of every free moment to pursue his passion for the drums. www adres: www.billykilson.com |

Paul
Motian, drummer Paul Motian was born in Philadelphia in 1931 and from the age of two, he grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. His first musical attraction was the guitar. As he explains to Downbeat "because I liked cowboy movies - the guy puts his guitar around his neck, strums, sings - that looks like fun, I thought, 'I want to do that'". But his musical interests switched to the drums: he soon graviated to a neighbourhood drummer by the age of 12 he was taking his first lessons. Paul played in school bands until his high school graduation in 1949. He played local gigs around Providence before catching on with a band that toured New England playing stock big band arrangements. But he was as well listening to bebop innovators like Charlie Parker, Max Roach, Bud Powell and Dizzy Gillespie. www adres: http://www.ejn.it/mus/motian.htm |
