Has been committed to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in The Netherlands (chief conductor Edo de Waart) since 1999. Next to this job he's part of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the New Trombone Collective.

Gold in koperblazend Nederland aanvankelijk als een soort van wonderkind. Na 3 jaar klassieke opleiding in Utrecht en 3 jaar studie onder Bart van Lier in Hilversum, deed hij zijn intrede in de fameuze Dutch Swing College band. Met die groep vaderlandse jazz-ambassadeurs is hij sindsdien wereldwijd onderweg en maakte hij tot nu toe 13 CD's. In 1988, het laatste jaar van zijn opleiding werd.

René Laanen, trombone
René's
father Theo Laanen was 43 years solo trumpetist in "The Hague's Philharmonic
Orchestra" and for 25 years trumpet teacher at the "Royal Conservatory"
in The Hague.
René took lessons at the Royal Conservatory The Hague, Rotterdam,
and Zwolle.
He had lessons from: Piet van Dijk, Anner Bijlsma, Arthur Moore (former
principal trombonists The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra) Bas Dekker, Gerard
Velthuijsen (former principal trombonists Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra).

The trombone is the king of all instruments. As a solo instrument it stands way above all others as to its expressive range and it is certainly no accident that the greatest works in the history of music have been written specially for the trombone. Thus all of Beethoven's, Brahms's, Tchaikovsky's andMahler's symphonies are, in point of fact, trombone concertos which seem later to have beenreorchestrated because trombonists demanded such exorbitant fees that no-one could afford to engage them.
