Paul van Kemenade Quintet
Jeroen van Vliet - piano / fender / synth, Pieter Bast -drums,
Louk Boudesteijn - trombone,
Wiro Mahieu - bass/e.bass,
Paul van Kemenade - alto sax.

Founded in 1982 ! the music of the Paul van Kemenade Quintet is highly original and has a strong lust for life. They mostly play their own compositions and try to blend European improvised music with American jazz, African- and Spanish music, classical music as well as
with popmusic. Furthermore they try to serve this musical cocktail in their own right.
They are constantly looking for opportunities to mix with other musical disciplines and are therefore evolving and aiming to lift their music to a higher level.

They have toured succesfully in Europe, South-Africa, West-Africa and Indonesia - have played with popbands and windbands/fanfares, symphony orchestras and youth orchestras - performed with various national- and international guestmusicians and since 1998 playing quite frequently with the South African musicians Feya Faku and Sydney Mnisi (later on joined by Sonti Mndebele and Bheki Khoza) and since 2002 with the West Africans 'Les Frères Guissé' from Senegal as well.
New tours and projects are constantly in movement and to date they have recorded 10 albums.

More projects at this moment are: the quintet with Belgian topsinger David Linx, projects with guestmusicians and a new experiment of Paul with a stringquartet-cajon-bass-alto with a.o. Pierre Blanchard (F)- Herman van Haaren and- Niko Langenhuijsen.

In 2000 Paul van Kemenade (1957) received the "Boy Edgar Prijs, a prestigious award for professional jazzmusicians for their contribution to Dutch jazzmusic.
