The Scallymatic Orchestra

Scallymatic Orchestra is an 8-strong jazz group, founded in 2000. They play a fresh mix of groove jazz and funky fusion. Their sound sometimes hints at the 70s, the decade in which most Scallies were born, but it is at the same time modern & fresh.

With catchy grooves, cool themes, enough room for improvisation and a good dose of suspense, the band is able to convince both a club crowd and the discerning ear. They regularly perform with guest vocalist Paul van Kessel.
Scallymatic Orchestra plays original compositions by guitarist/-bandleader Mathijs Duringhof.

Summer 2006 they played at the jazzfestivals of 's Hertogenbosch (main stage) and Bergen op Zoom, North Sea Jazz Around Town as well as the Zomerstop festival and the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam. Early 2006 Scallymatic held a monthly night at the Sugar Factory, Amsterdam.

From the start onward Scallymatic Orchestra played in clubs such as Bitterzoet, Club de Ville, Panama and Hotel Arena in Amsterdam, Rotown, Off Corso, Las Palmas and DMW in Rotterdam, Pannonica in Den Haag and de Vloer and SJU-huis in Utrecht. They also played at World Port Jazz Festival (R'dam), Festival a/d Werf (Utrecht) and Stranger Than Paranoia festival (Tilburg).

Halfway 2003 their first 12" single Autumn Forest Song (incl. remixes) was released on the Utrecht based Flyin' High Records. It was very well received within the worldwide nu-jazz scene:
"Das orginalstück ist ja ein killer ........super jazz-monster...... und es klingt fantastisch........". Roskow Kretschmann, Jazzanova, Berlin.

The band is currently working on their debut album.
